Over the weekend, I met up with some highschool friends and we were quite proud of ourselves that we still see each other often. Now, it hasn’t been too long since we graduated, but it is a fair assessment to say that we have all obtained our own busy schedules that come with life / work.
However, I am proud to say that my friends and I have made a consistent effort to see each other on a regular basis. There are those who can only make it for special occasions, but there is also core group of us that have remained close over these many years. I’m proud to say that some of the closest friendships I have are reaching a lifespan of nearly 20 years.
We have been meeting up regularly and for one of these gatherings, we went to Ensemble Tap for a birthday celebration for one of my closest friends.
Seeing as how Dale MacKay’s pulled pork was featured and won a challenge on Top Chef, and that a few of us are pulled pork fans, it would be a shame not to order it. And as always, curiosity always gets the best of me. Like practically everyone else I know, if there’s something that gets talked about frequently, I want to try it for myself to see what the hype is all about. And did it live up to the hype? Well…I’m a firm believer that everything is worth a try once.…or twice.
Ensemble Tap – 990 Smithe Street, Vancouver, BC
And to end…a throwback to the late 90s, an era my friends and I grew up in. Yep, we sang this song as we fondly remembered our early teenage years. Am I too young to be this nostalgic?
Update: It’s hard to open a restaurant in Vancouver…and for this reason, Ensemble Tap is no longer with us and has joined the ranks of others in restaurant heaven.
